CubeWriter was created by an occupational therapist, Mary Hellman, who specializes in the area of assistive technology. Mary works with many students who struggle with the task of writing, for a variety of reasons. Throughout her years of combined experience in therapy and assistive technology, Mary has had the opportunity to explore and experiment with many types of software programs. It was difficult to find writing software that was easy for teachers to program, fast, and fun for students to run. After researching other programs and not finding the “just right” software, the concept of CubeWriter was born.

CubeWriter began as a solution for switch and scanning users, but developed into software that ANYONE can use. With universal design (usable by all people), CubeWriter gives everyone an opportunity to write and learn in a non-conventional manner. The user is able to choose from various options to accommodate their individual needs. A variety of challenges have been solved with this easy, fun and motivating on-screen keyboard and writing program.
